Landowner hunting-access programs in Michigan.

Michigan HAP is active, but owner intake is limited to eligible counties and open enrollment periods. The official landowner page tells owners to confirm whether enrollment is open in their county.

Official terms and funding can change. Confirm eligibility, current enrollment status, agreement language, and the enrolled access boundary with the responsible agency.

Published payment terms: Annual leases can pay up to $30 per acre for qualifying high-quality Farm Bill habitat or wildlife food plots; the evaluated rate varies by habitat, hunt types, and enrolled acreage.

At least 20 acres in an eligible county; regional wildlife-habitat requirements also apply.
Agreement term
General HAP leases are negotiated for one year. A separate southern Michigan incentive requires a two-year agreement and additional qualifications.

Who may qualify: Owners with at least 20 acres in listed parts of the Upper and Lower Peninsulas may apply during an open enrollment period. Forest, wetland, grassland, and cropland can qualify, subject to regional habitat review.

Owner control: The owner selects allowed hunt categories from the options available in that region and can limit the number of hunters. Properties use a designated registration or check-in process, and participants may also seek habitat-project funding.

Official next step: Use the HAP landowner page to contact Michigan DNR and confirm that enrollment is open for the property's county before applying.
