WHERE TO HUNT

Michigan where-to-hunt resources

Michigan DNR's access hub links hunters to state game and wildlife areas, GEMS grouse sites, Wetland Wonders, Hunting Access Program lands, national forests, and commercial forest parcels; it also posts the current status of the Mi-HUNT mapping tool.

STATE-SPECIFIC CHECKS

Before choosing a parcel

  1. Use the alternatives on DNR's where-to-hunt hub whenever Mi-HUNT is unavailable, and recheck the hub before departure for restoration or maintenance updates.
  2. On a Hunting Access Program listing, review the property's permitted species, maximum hunter count, map, and any registration method before entering.
  3. Treat online boundaries as planning aids and compare them with posted signs and the rules for the specific state game area, forest, Wetland Wonder, or commercial forest parcel.

WRITTEN PERMISSION

Written permission required in defined situations

Michigan requires owner, lessee, or agent consent for recreational activity or trapping on fenced or posted land and on farm property or connected woods whether posted or not. Consent may be oral or written, but an owner may require writing. Written permission is separately required for firearm hunting within a safety zone and access to railroad or utility rights-of-way; landowner permission is required before pursuing wounded game or using an elevated platform or ground blind on private land. Unarmed hunting-dog retrieval has a narrow exception.

Michigan access questions

Can I request dates for Michigan land today?

If a reviewed listing appears on this page, open it to send the owner a no-charge date request. If the reviewed rail reports zero, create a private request instead. Neither action grants access; the owner must approve the exact dates, party size, rules, and property terms.

Does a pass include my licenses or tags?

No. Private-property access is separate from licenses, permits, tags, draws, seasons, legal methods, and other requirements. Verify all current rules with the state wildlife agency.

Can I list land anywhere in Michigan?

Yes. Landowners can submit a free, non-binding interest form from any county or area in the state.

Are hunting results guaranteed?

No. Back40 Pass can define access and property terms, but wildlife presence, harvest, weather, and hunting success can never be guaranteed.
