Find the official Maryland property record before asking to hunt.

Maryland's Department of Assessments and Taxation provides one statewide real-property database with ownership, value, sale, and parcel-account information for every county and Baltimore City.

A parcel, tax, or deed record is not permission to enter the land or proof that one named person controls every hunting right.

The Maryland path

Use the record for orientation—not authorization.

Open Real Property Data Search, select the county, and search by street address, property account identifier, or map reference. The tool does not search by owner name. Use the returned account as a lead, then verify the current deed and contact the owner for explicit permission.

What you can verify

Administration
Statewide
Record authority
The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation maintains the assessment account. Recorded deeds and other land instruments remain with the applicable local land-records office.
Owner-name access
Owner-name availability varies by county, municipality, or portal.
Freshness
The official search is live, but the state does not promise a single update interval on the public guidance page. Confirm recent transfers with local land records.

What still needs checking

Assessment data is not a title opinion, boundary survey, guarantee of current ownership, or authorization to enter or hunt the property.

Official-use restriction: Use owner information only for a direct, lawful permission request; do not republish personal record details.

A current owner, co-owner, tenant, property manager, trust representative, or hunting-rights lessee may be the relevant decision-maker. Ask directly and do not treat silence, a map label, or a prior invitation as approval.

From record to respectful request

Do not turn public records into mass outreach.

Research one relevant property, use a lawful and respectful channel, explain the narrow hunt you want to discuss, and make “no” easy.

1. Recheck the property and county

Confirm that the record belongs to the parcel you meant to research and reopen the live source near the time of contact. Do not navigate by generalized tax-map lines in the field.

2. Ask who controls hunting access

A name or tax-mailing record can begin the inquiry; it cannot settle co-ownership, occupancy, management, an existing lease, or a separate transfer of hunting rights.

3. Define the exact request

Name the hunters, species, lawful method, dates, scouting, equipment, parking, entry, boundaries, guests, and retrieval plan. Do not enter first and ask later.

4. Use the official written record

Requirements vary. Open the Maryland written-permission requirements, then confirm every current state, local, and property-specific rule and form.
