Find the official Hawaii property record before asking to hunt.

Hawaii's Statewide GIS Program publishes a statewide Tax Map Key parcel layer assembled from all four counties and openable in ArcGIS Map Viewer.

A parcel, tax, or deed record is not permission to enter the land or proof that one named person controls every hunting right.

The Hawaii path

Use the record for orientation—not authorization.

Use the map to capture the county and TMK, then follow the state metadata's county GIS route for the most current assessment record before seeking permission.

What you can verify

Map lookupParcel-ID search
Administration
Mixed state and local
Record authority
County real-property assessment divisions maintain the source TMK records; the state standardizes and merges county geometry and identifiers.
Owner-name access
An owner-name search was not verified from the official source.
Freshness
State item metadata identifies a May 2026 merge using April and May 2026 county extracts; the county systems may be newer.

What still needs checking

The state says TMK boundaries are visual references, not legal or survey-grade lines, and attributes can change. A TMK identifies an assessment parcel but does not prove title, hunting-right authority, access, or permission.

A current owner, co-owner, tenant, property manager, trust representative, or hunting-rights lessee may be the relevant decision-maker. Ask directly and do not treat silence, a map label, or a prior invitation as approval.

From record to respectful request

Do not turn public records into mass outreach.

Research one relevant property, use a lawful and respectful channel, explain the narrow hunt you want to discuss, and make “no” easy.

1. Recheck the property and county

Confirm that the record belongs to the parcel you meant to research and reopen the live source near the time of contact. Do not navigate by generalized tax-map lines in the field.

2. Ask who controls hunting access

A name or tax-mailing record can begin the inquiry; it cannot settle co-ownership, occupancy, management, an existing lease, or a separate transfer of hunting rights.

3. Define the exact request

Name the hunters, species, lawful method, dates, scouting, equipment, parking, entry, boundaries, guests, and retrieval plan. Do not enter first and ask later.

4. Use the official written record

Requirements vary. Open the Hawaii written-permission requirements, then confirm every current state, local, and property-specific rule and form.
