WHERE TO HUNT

Minnesota hunting lands

Minnesota DNR's hunting-land directory brings together wildlife management areas, state forests, Walk-In Access parcels, hunter walking trails, scientific and natural areas, Forest Legacy lands, and the Recreation Compass map.

STATE-SPECIFIC CHECKS

Before choosing a parcel

  1. Use Recreation Compass or the Walk-In Access map to locate a parcel, then reopen its current detail before the trip because enrolled lands and access status can change.
  2. For Walk-In Access, review the current validation information and tract signs; access is designed for hunters on foot and each property remains privately owned.
  3. Identify the land class before applying rules: wildlife management areas, state forests, scientific and natural areas, and Forest Legacy easements do not share one blanket set of permitted uses.

WRITTEN PERMISSION

Written permission required in defined situations

Minnesota requires permission before outdoor recreation on agricultural land and posted land. Writing is specifically required to discharge a firearm within 500 feet of an occupied human or livestock building in the covered locations; permission without a stated writing method is separately required within 500 feet of a livestock stockade or corral. Narrow wounded-game and hunting-dog retrieval exceptions apply.

Minnesota access questions

Can I request dates for Minnesota land today?

If a reviewed listing appears on this page, open it to send the owner a no-charge date request. If the reviewed rail reports zero, create a private request instead. Neither action grants access; the owner must approve the exact dates, party size, rules, and property terms.

Does a pass include my licenses or tags?

No. Private-property access is separate from licenses, permits, tags, draws, seasons, legal methods, and other requirements. Verify all current rules with the state wildlife agency.

Can I list land anywhere in Minnesota?

Yes. Landowners can submit a free, non-binding interest form from any county or area in the state.

Are hunting results guaranteed?

No. Back40 Pass can define access and property terms, but wildlife presence, harvest, weather, and hunting success can never be guaranteed.
